Stephen Ministry

"Christ Caring for People through People"

Aldersgate Church takes seriously its reputation for being “the Church with the Warm Heart.”  Within this large and growing congregation we seek to maintain an intentional and systematic ministry of caring for people and providing the support necessary to help people in our church and community face a variety of needs.

Because of our commitment to being a caring congregation, Aldersgate implemented “The
Stephen Ministry.” Stephen Ministry trains and equips lay persons to serve as Stephen ministers. The training involves 50 hours of class covering a variety of issues from understanding grief and loss to ministering to shut-ins, and developing skills from listening to assertiveness training.

Following their training, participants are commissioned as Stephen Ministers and will work one on-one with persons offering their caring support in a confidential and trusting relationship. Stephen Ministers commit themselves to serving in this capacity for two years, as well as continue to meet bi-monthly for continuing education and supervision.
